The Concussion Crisis in Sport
Concussion has become a contentious topic in global sport, with footballers attributing brain injury to heading the ball and legal cases being brought against rugby union authorities. Initial data analysis would suggest that in wrestling too concussion is a serious issue. Currently, unlike in football or rugby, there is no official concussion protocol in professional wrestling. Standards and practices vary enormously. Health and Wellbeing in Professional Wrestling’s Dr Dominic Malcolm is a leading authority on concussion and has recently (March 2021) called for radical changes, advocating for a safer and more robust environment.
